Departure

I promised myself an epic adventure a long time ago, but it has taken a lot of patient saving and planning to align the stars to make it happen.  The last month before my trip has been particularly intense, packing and moving my belongings into storage and squaring away all the details of my life in Canada so that I can leave in good shape.

But now the time has arrived and I'm about to board my flights to Bangkok and the start of my journey. I'm nervous and excited to depart into the unknown and look forward to sharing my experiences with you, dear reader.

When I first arrived in Hanoi from Luang Prabang, Laos I was overwhelmed by how busy it was in comparison. Making my way around the old quarter on foot I was accosted by scooters from every direction, it's a very dangerous place to be a pedestrian. Thankfully I met an expat who gave me some good advice.. simply walk slowly and calmly across the road without stopping and the scooters will avoid you - amazingly this works.
